  • TM: How do I create a game event?
To ensure your players are well-informed about game times, field locations, and opponents, consider creating an event in GroupMe. Creating an event offers additional perks, such as allowing players to easily RSVP, indicating whether they'll be attending or not. Moreover, you can utilize reminders to send notifications to players as game days approach, helping everyone stay on top of their schedules. To begin creating your event, open your GroupChat. In the bottom left corner, you'll notice a + sign. Tap on that to get started. This will unveil a range of options for adding content to your GroupMe chat. Look for the icon that resembles a calendar and press on it. Press "Create New Event" at the bottom of the screen. You'll encounter an event setup screen with various options. Let's start from the top and proceed step by step. Naming the event appropriately is crucial. I've found that structuring it in a way that offers all the necessary information at a glance proves to be beneficial for the team. vs. [Team Name] (Time) - [Location/Field] - [Home/Away] vs. Benchwarmers (2pm) - Field 2 - Home Next, you'll input the days and times for the event. REMEMBER to adjust the day of the event accordingly. It's easy to overlook, as it sometimes defaults to today's date. Tip: Set reminders 15 minutes before game time. This allows players to arrive a few minutes early, considering the unpredictability of traffic. Within the "Optional" settings, it's a good practice to remember to toggle off the Video Call option. While not an inning ending issue, leaving it on can sometimes lead to confusion. For new teams unfamiliar with the field locations, it's incredibly helpful to provide them with an address and even include that address in the description field of the event. This ensures everyone knows where to go without any confusion. Configuring reminders is arguably the most crucial setting during the event creation phase. This feature ensures your team receives timely notifications, guaranteeing they arrive at the game on time. Tip: You want to keep this consistent across all your events/games. Setting the first reminder for 1 hour before game time serves as a helpful prompt for players to start preparing to leave the house. Similarly, scheduling the second reminder for 1 day before game time acts as a gentle nudge, reminding players of their upcoming game the following day. Your event is now ready to be posted!

Creating a poll in GroupMe is an excellent method for swiftly gathering input from the team and reaching a consensus on various matters. Here are some examples of when to use polls: Determining the best time for team practice. Gauging interest in acquiring team jerseys. Planning a meet-up for lunch and deciding on the preferred day. Here's how to create one: Creating a poll is quite simple. Just begin by tapping the + icon located in the bottom left corner of the group chat. This will then provide you a variety of options for content creation. Press the icon on the far right for Polls Then tap on 'Create New Poll' button at the bottom. You will now see configuration options for the poll. Start by giving your poll a specific name that clearly articulates the question you're asking. For example, "Who's available for practice on Wednesday?" Next, configure the options for selection, keeping them concise with as few options as possible. Avoid overwhelming participants with too many choices; simplicity is key to ensure clear and actionable responses. For the example above, "Yes" and "No" options are typically sufficient, but you may also include a "Maybe" option for individuals who are undecided at the moment. This allows for follow-up discussions with them later on. There are three final settings you'll want to configure for your poll. Voting Ends - Choose the date to when the poll will end and the results will show. Multiple Answers - This option allows voters to select multiple answers, which can be useful in scenarios where you need people to provide several options. For instance, when asking a team about their availability for various dates, enabling multiple answers allows them to choose all the dates they are available, providing valuable insight into the most popular options. Public Poll - This feature is significant. If you require transparency regarding who is voting for each option, ensure to turn this on. In most cases, you'll want to leave this option enabled. However, if you only need to know the overall results without identifying individual choices, you can leave this off. You're done! Now just hit the send button in the top right corner.
